BANTEAY SREI

50 km From the center of Siem Reap

Banteay Srei (or Banteay Srey) was build in the late 10th century and considered a very special work of art. The material used in most artifacts and monuments is red sandstone. This material is very suitable for detailed inscriptions and carving.  Compared to many other temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park, the monuments at Banteay Srei are build in miniature. The fine carving, the miniature measurements of the temples and the fact that everything is well preserved and in good condition, makes this location a very special place to visit.

Visiting the temples of Banteay Srei

Banteay Srei is located 50 kilometers from the center of Siem Reap. The best way to visit this impressive site is to book a tour.  A ride with a tuktuk will take more than 2 hours and PassApp drivers won’t drive that far.

If you only have one day for your visit, we recommend to book the Angkor Wat and Banteay Srei Day Tour. If you have more time and want to visit more sites, your best option is the two day Angkor Private Tour. This tour will take you to all the hotspots and includes a visit at Angkor Wat during the magnificent sunrise.

WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT TEMPLE RULES?

Banteay Srei & Kulen Mountain

Banteay Srei is located near the Phnom Kulen National Park where you can find one of the most popular place locals like to visit: Kulen Mountain.  Phnom Kulen, as the locals call it, has a magnificent waterfall and a great view.

If you are NOT planning to book a tour, but visit Banteay Srei by yourself, it’s great to visit Banteay Srei in the morning and relax at Kulen Mountain during the afternoon.

How much will it cost?

Entrance to Banteay Srey is part of your Angkor Pass. This pass has to be bought in advanced at the Angkor Pass Ticket Counter. The ticket counters can be found on the road that leads to Angkor Wat (open map)

You need to bring a photo for the Angkor Pass. You can buy an Angkor Pass for one day (#37), three days ($62) or seven days for $72.

What you should do!

If you’re booking a tour, everything you need is included. Water is provided and the vans that take you to Banteay Srei are all air conditioned. Dress appropriate, wear a hat or cap, don’t forget your sunglasses and of course your camera. If you’re planning to visit Mount Kulen, you may want to bring a swimming suit or seperate clothing.

What you shouldn’t do!

We advice you not to hire a motorbike and travel to Banteay Srey by yourself. Besides the fact that foreigners are not allowed to drive a motorbike over 150cc, the roads are not always well maintained.
